Taizhou

Taizhou, Jiangsu has about 4 million people and has consistently remained a major political, economic and cultural center of the Jiangsu province. It’s largest exports include cotton, flour and fish nets.

What to Do:
Every year, the Qingtong boat festival takes place around the beginning of April. Thousands of people from all over come to watch the dragon boat races and enjoy food. Inside and right around Taizhou are tons of lakes with scenic areas and pagodas flanking the sides. The Père David’s deer can be found in Taizhou. The deer are extinct in the wild, but still exist in captivity and a reserve is right in Taizhou. There are also several museums to visit and explore, including a calligraphy museum and sizable garden. In the Fengchenghe Scenic Area you can enjoy a tranquil walk and visit the newly built Wanghai Tower.

What the Weather’s like:
Taizhou is in such close proximity to Shanghai it tends to have similar weather patterns. Shanghai is in a humid subtropical climate and its residents are exposed to all four season. Winters are chilly with rain and very cold nights. Between December and March, temperatures hover in the 40s, summers are hot and sticky (summer days rarely drift below 95°) with torrential downpours and intense thunderstorms are common as well as typhoons in summer and early autumn. Spring is usually rainy but with mild temperatures and autumn usually receives little rain and is sunny.

What to Eat:
Food in Taizhou, Jiangsu will be similar to other food that can be found in the Shanghai River Delta. For more information about food you can eat in this area click here.

How to Get Around:
There is currently no subway in Taizhou, but there is a bus system people use to get around.

Where to Shop:
If you want to shop at a Walmart, your best bet is going across the river to Yangzhong. There’s a Walmart on Xingning Alley and Cuizhu N Road, just after you get off the ferry. If you want a department store the areas by Dongjin Road to the north and Jichuan Road to the south will be your best bet.

How to attend Church:
For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, there is currently no branch in Taizhou, Jiangsu. Members who wish to attend church will Skype into a virtual branch.
